Tottenham Hotspur could be set to bolster their attacking options this summer after The Sportreported that they were pursuing Spanish starlet Sandro Ramirez to provide competition for Harry Kane.
The Barcelona youngster has been scouted by a number of Premier League sides in recent weeks, with Newcastle United and Spurs in particular having a rumoured interest. With Spurs needing attacking reinforcements ahead of the new season, could Sandro be a good option for the Londoners to turn to.
Although he has spent most of the season playing for Barcelona ‘B’ in the Segunda league, Sandro has appeared twelve times for the first team this season, including three substitute appearances in the Champions League.
He has only scored 8 goals in the Segunda despite making 28 appearances, but he also claimed 6 goals for the first team this season, one of them coming in a win over Ajax in the Champions League.
The goal stats can be deceptive as Sandro has been used on the wings at times this season, meaning that he might not be presented with regular goalscoring opportunities, although he has failed to register an assist for either the first or second teams.
Considering Sandro is only 19, he is far from the finished article but it might be worth trying to sign him on a loan deal to give him valuable first team experience. His versatility could help his cause as he could benefit from playing alongside the more direct Kane and offer something different up front. Additionally he could be used out wide and provide some natural width and further support for Kane.
Realistically Sandro could be a calculated gamble for Spurs as a loan offer is likely to be less costly for them in the long run. Furthermore, with both Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado linked with a White Hart Lane exit in the summer, the young Catalan would bolster what could be a severely depleted front line for the Lilywhites.
